If there is one question we hear more than any other in the treatment room, it is this: what sunscreen should I actually be wearing?

Not which one is best on paper. Not which one has the highest number on the front. Which one will still be on the bathroom shelf in March, half used, because it felt good enough to reach for on a Tuesday morning when you were already running late.

That is the real question, and it is the right one. The most effective sunscreen is the one you wear every day. Everything else is secondary.

Our answer has come back to the same two formulas for years, and we are glad to say they are back on our shelves. EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 and UV Daily SPF 40 are available to pre-order now.

Why we are still talking about sunscreen in October

It is easy to put SPF away with the patio furniture. The days are shorter, the light is flatter, and it stops feeling urgent.

But UVA rays are present year round. They are there on grey days, and they come through windows — the car window on your commute, the one beside your desk. They do not announce themselves the way a summer burn does, which is exactly why they are easy to ignore.

October is also when many of our clients begin a laser, peel or microneedling series. Those treatments work by creating controlled change in the skin, and the skin needs protection while it does that work. Daily SPF is not an optional extra alongside a treatment plan. It is part of it. If you are investing in your skin this season, the sunscreen you wear in between appointments is doing a meaningful share of the work.

So the question is not whether to wear it. It is which one.

UV Clear SPF 46

UV Clear is broad-spectrum SPF 46, made with zinc oxide, and it is oil-free. It is lightweight to the point that most clients forget they have it on, and it wears comfortably alone or under makeup.

It also contains niacinamide, which calms the look of redness, and hyaluronic acid for hydration.

This is the one we reach for most often with skin that is sensitive, breakout-prone or flushes easily. It is also our usual suggestion for skin that is fresh from a treatment, once your aesthetician has told you it is time to restart products.

Choose UV Clear if: your skin gets shiny by the afternoon, congests easily, reacts to new products, or you are in the middle of a treatment series.

UV Daily SPF 40

UV Daily is broad-spectrum SPF 40, also made with zinc oxide, in a lightweight moisturising lotion. It contains hyaluronic acid, and for many of our clients it does two jobs in one step — hydration and protection, without a separate layer underneath.

Choose UV Daily if: your skin feels tight by mid-morning, tends toward dry, or you would rather simplify your routine down to fewer steps.

If you are genuinely somewhere in the middle, the simplest test is how your skin feels at 3pm. Shiny points you to UV Clear. Tight points you to UV Daily.

Tinted or untinted?

Both formulas come either way.

The tinted versions add a sheer wash of colour that evens the look of your skin tone. They are lovely on mornings when you would rather not reach for foundation at all, and many clients wear the tint as their entire base.

The untinted versions layer under anything, so if you have a foundation or tinted moisturiser you are loyal to, start there.

How to wear it

Sunscreen belongs at the end of your morning routine, after moisturiser and before makeup. Apply generously to your face and neck, and give it about fifteen minutes before sun exposure. Reapply as the label directs, and after swimming, sweating or towel drying.

At night, take it off properly. Sunscreen is designed to sit on the skin rather than sink in, and a single water-based cleanse does not always lift it fully. On heavier SPF days, start with an oil cleanser — our Glowtox Cleansing Oil melts sunscreen and makeup away — and then follow with your usual cleanser. This one change solves more congestion complaints than almost anything else we suggest.

How we choose it with you

Every GLOW client is welcome to a complimentary consultation with skin imaging. It is the difference between a recommendation and a guess.

Imaging shows us what is happening beneath the surface — congestion, redness patterns, sun damage that has not shown up yet — and it lets us match a formula to your skin rather than to the description on the box. It also lets us place SPF properly inside your treatment plan, including when to restart it after laser or microneedling and how to layer it with everything else you are using.

If you have been reading this and still are not certain which one is yours, that is exactly what the consultation is for.

Sometimes the switch to fall is not so noticeable, until you reach for a heavier sweater and realize summer has quietly slipped away. Warmer drinks, heavier blankets, and leaves creeping into the daily routine.

That feeling is what this issue is built on.

Welcome to the very first edition of The GLOW Edit, our quarterly magazine. Every three months, this is where you will find everything ahead at the spa: the treatments and products we are most excited about, seasonal skincare guidance, a recipe worth making, updates from the team, and the offers we have planned with you in mind.

We made this because so much of what we love about our work happens in conversation. A tip shared mid-facial. A recommendation made at the front desk. This is our way of bringing those conversations home with you.

The season to go deeper. Summer asks you to protect. Autumn lets you rebuild. Four adjustments we would make to your routine and your treatment plan as the weather turns, including the one change we see make the fastest visible difference.

The only masks we are wearing this October. Masks are the most underused step in most routines. Four we reach for, what each one is actually for, and how long to leave it on.

Best treatments for the season. The treatments our team books for themselves the moment the weather turns. Lower UV and cooler months make autumn the right window for resurfacing work, which is why our peels and our light and laser treatments move to the front of the plan this time of year.

Ross il-Forn. A Maltese baked rice from Nanna's kitchen, the most requested thing Ashley brings anywhere. Vegan and gluten free variations included.

Plus: National Aesthetician Day, a new face joining the team in November, a product launch worth knowing about, a conversation with a local woman building her own business, our fall and winter gift list, holiday hours, and the offers we have planned for members through November and December.

Twenty five pages. Make a warm drink and settle in!

The GLOW Edit is quarterly. Issue No. 02 arrives in the new year with everything ahead for the first quarter of 2027. If you are not on our list yet, that is where each issue lands first, along with seasonal skin guidance and member offers.

Thank you for being here, and for trusting us with your skin.

If you've been searching for PCA Skin or EltaMD lately and coming up short, here's the honest answer: both lines have been discontinued in Canada by their distributor. It's a nationwide change affecting spas and clinics across the country, not a decision GLOW made, and not a reflection of how well these products have worked for you.

We wanted to explain it clearly, because these products have been a trusted part of so many of our clients' routines and because we'd rather you hear it from us than piece it together from an empty shelf.

Why this happened with PCA Skin & EltaMD

This is purely a distribution change. The Canadian distributor responsible for bringing both lines into the country has chosen to discontinue them, effective immediately and until further notice. It has nothing to do with product quality, safety, or results — the same formulas many of you have loved simply aren't available to Canadian spas and clinics right now.

What it means for you

If you're on our waitlist for either line, our team will reach out personally with alternatives suited to your skin. If you've prepaid for a product or series that included PCA Skin or EltaMD, we'll contact you directly to walk through your options; an alternative product, a treatment credit, or a refund, whatever works best for you. And if you're simply wondering what to use next, that's exactly the kind of question our aestheticians love to answer.

Finding your next favourite

Here's the part we want you to feel reassured about: choosing the right products for your skin is what we do. Rather than swapping one product for whatever's nearest, we'd rather look at your skin, understand your goals, and recommend something we're genuinely confident in: the same personalized, imaging-led approach we bring to every treatment. A discontinued product is never the end of your glow journey; it's just a chance to refine it.

Have a product you're worried about replacing? Book a complimentary consultation, or simply ask your aesthetician at your next visit — we'll help you find the right next step for your skin.
